Friday Fodder: How Big Is Your Starship?

Phil Plait will love this post.

How many times has this happened to you? You're enjoying a perfectly lovely tumbler of Woodford Reserve bourbon when the thought hits you, "I wonder how big the Star Trek USS Enterprise (Galaxy Class Starship) is compared to the Star Wars Galactic Empire (Imperial Class) Star Destroyer?" Or, "Does a Battlestar Galactica Cylon Basestar dwarf a Babylon 5 Drakh Hordes Raider?"

This sort of thing keeps me up at night. In part, the reason for the tumbler of bourbon.

Well, now you can find out with this totally awesome Starship Size Comparison Chart, compiled by Dan Carlson on Star Trek Minutiae. Yes, Star Trek Minutiae. You get far more than Start Trek on this Chart. In addition to the aforementioned sci-fi universes, you'll also find ships from Stargate, Starship Troopers, and the Babylon 5 spin-off Crusade. As a bonus, there's also the NSEA Protector from Galaxy Quest. “Never give up, never surrender.”

I'm sure my fellow nerds will appreciate this find!

*weeps with joy* But...where's Serenity (from Firefly)? Without it my nerd-verse is not complete.

((inhales deeply)) oh, the nerdy goodness of it all!

I needed that today.

BTW... I just got the most stunning book in the mail. Flipped through it a bit before even getting out of the car, and the kids wanted to fight me for first dibs on reading it. Of course I won.

Thanks.
