

Okay, I know it's a terrible picture. I've cropped the shot and enlarged as much as possible in the image to the left. But it's the best I can do with a crappy camera to convey the amazing spectacle I experienced sitting on the shore on Maui's Lahaina-side this afternoon watching at least a dozen whales breaching in the Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. There were adults and babies leaping one right after the next. It seemed that one breach would trigger another whale to breach a few hundred meters away. Some whales were even
tail-lobbing, creating huge sprays of foamy water. In all, a spectacular show and it was all I could do to not stick my head in the water to listen for whale song.

How wonderful for you to see this! It's an experience I've yet to have. The photos are, in this case, the least important part. I'm practically green with envy.
